Florida Gives Tax Break on Appliances

Starting on Thursday Floridians in the market for energy-efficient appliances get a week-long respite from paying sales tax.

During Energy Efficiency Week, which runs from October 5-11, sales tax will not be charged on appliances that cost under $1,500 and meet the EPA's Energy Star criteria.

Utility Florida Power and Light has a handy list of appliances that can be purchased sans tax during the week, and they are hosting a webinar on Tuesday, October 10th for small and medium-size business customers on how to manage energy costs.

For me demand side incentives for buying energy efficient products are more appropriate than paying companies to use certain materials. These products are already in the market, and prompting consumers to make wise investiments is better than paying companies to make products that may or may not be succesful.
