Dell Offers Power Saving Servers
Since computer servers run around the clock, small reductions in power consumption can add up to big savings. Dell is the latest computer company to come out with a line of servers that draw less electricity, according to News.com.
Dell says its Energy Smart line will costs $100 or more than its standard servers, but the payback on the investment can be doubled ($200) in a year. I'm surprised Dell doesn't just switch to all "green" computers, although the IT industry is very cost competitive.
Financial services company are looking to saving IT costs as key to reducing their energy footprint. According to Bank Technology News, 65 percent of banks' energy bill comes from their computers.
The energy saving technology has to be rock solid since companies can't afford their servers to switch off.
