Villains: Navy Pollutes SD Bay

The U.S. Navy has been dumping untreated sewage in the San Diego Bay at the rate of 20,000 gallons per day for the past two years, according to boating newspaper The Log.

Navy contractor Soltek Pacific did not connect the sewage line from the Navy barracks to the city's sewage treatment system, but instead started pumping untreated sewage into the bay. At more than 14 million gallons, that's more crap (literally) than the Exxon Valdez dumped in Alaska.

Let's hope that Soltek Pacific or the Navy -- whomever is at fault -- pays for the cleanup in short order and doesn't belabor the process with appeals.
