I recently wrote about Google Transit, an innovation by Google that, in addition to driving directions and maps, shows public transportation options along with cost differences between driving and mass transit.

So to be fair, I should also write about Multimap. The directions and mapping website also shows driving directions, maps and limited alternative transportation information. For example, it shows the closest airport in the "nearest transport link" for my trip.

What's cool about this site, however, is it estimates the amount of carbon emissions for any given trip, depending on categories of vehicles, such as a small petrol car, a large diesel car or a bus journey. It uses information from Carbon Clear, a London-based organization that manages carbon reduction projects and sources credits for the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme.

It also shows some interesting information around your designated location, such as ATMs, WiFi hotspots, metro stops and hotel accommodations.
