Dell PCs Show Green Logic
Dell Computer says it wants to manufacture the "greenest" PCs on Earth. This new strategy highlights one of the tenets of sustainability: that reducing the carbon footprint of manufacturing will often save money.
Dell aims to reduce the carbon intensity of its manufacturing process by 15 percent within 5 years. By reducing the amount of raw materials and the energy used to develop a product, companies are simultaneously cutting their cost and reducing their impact on the environment.
Dell is also going to evaluate the sustainable practices of its component suppliers, and when a company that sells nearly 40 million computers a year talks, electronics companies will listen. Dell is also leading the PC industry by example by asking consumers to donate a few dollars for each computer they buy to offset the carbon emissions from using the PC.
