Honda Euthanizes Overpriced Accord Hybrid

Honda has decided to end production of its poor selling Accord Hybrid, which comes as no surprise to me. The "performance" hybrid gave close to V-6 power, but while using a trickle less gasoline, and consumers smartly avoided paying more than $30K for a hybrid that gets inferior gas mileage to comparable gas-only vehicles.

The death of the Accord Hybrid reminds us that not every hybrid should be viewed as green. As I've said before, just because an electric motor was added to a vehicle doesn't make it a good deal for consumers or the environment. That's why the pace-setting Prius continues to sell well while "mild" hybrids are in the tank.

Let's not let the hybrid tag greenwash consumers. Soon diesel vehicles will show that hybrids aren't the only path to fuel economy.
