Nevada Power Fined Twice for Bad Air

And I thought the cigarette smoke filled air of Las Vegas casinos was bad for you. Apparently the air outside of the Strip wasn't much cleaner as the EPA has ordered Nevada Power to clean up a nearby power plant that was violating clean air codes.

The utility will pay a $300,000 fine and upgrade the gas-fired Clark Generating Station, which is just 10 miles from the Strip, to the tune of $60.7 million. In April, Nevada Power agreed to pay $90 million to clean up its Reid Gardner coal power plant, which is 40 miles from the strip.

Las Vegas has to be the least sustainable city in the nation because of all the fossil fuels burned to keep those neon lights burning 24/7, and for redirecting water that could be better used elsewhere into the desert.
