High Society Takes to the High Skies
Instead of carbon offsetting, Flightshare aims to cut emissions at the source. The world's private jets currently fly empty 40 percent of the time, with many of those planes heading to and from the same airports at similar times. Last year in Europe, 710,000 private flights took off with an estimated 250,000 of those carrying no passengers.
The "world's first flight sharing club" will consist of about 1,500 high profile members, such as royalty and senior diplomats, carefully selected celebrities, sports personalities and high net worth individuals. The Queen of Pop and the Prince of Wales are two of the invitees.
Given that these folks don't need to save money and tend to like their privacy, I wonder if the scheme will take off.
