Lexus Goes to School

Land, water, air, climate. No it's not Captain Planet, but it is designed for kids.

It's the new Lexus Environmental Challenge, a program designed to educate and encourage middle and high school students to improve the environment. The luxury vehicle company will award more than $1 million in scholarships and grants to students, teachers and schools.

The program will provide educational materials to help teachers integrate the environment into lesson plans, and offers a contest to reward teams of students who take action in their communities.

The program launched September 10 and will end on Earth Day, 2008, when the winning teams of the challenges will be announced. The teams will define an environmental issue important to them, develop an action plan that tackles the issue, implement the plan, and then report on the outcome.

And now that kids grow up with Wiis and Razrs, Lexus is encouraging them to move beyond the shoebox dioramas and incorporate digital photos, videos, websites and PowerPoint presentations. And the land, water, air and climate? Those are the four challenges the kids can choose to enter.
