Let's Eat Chocolate -- Cadbury Gets Top Marks for Green Practices

Cadbury was recognized today as the "Best in Class" for its approach to climate change in a report released by the Carbon Disclosure Project. The project surveyed leading UK companies on climate change policies. The Carbon Disclosure Project is a coalition of more than 385 institutional investors who represent more than $57 trillion in assets.

The information helps help those investors decide on the long-term value of a company, taking into account such tidbits as its long-term carbon liabilities.

In part, Cadbury's high rankings are attributable to the Carbon Disclosure Project — the two organizations worked together on the Supply Chain Leadership Collaboration, which has not only reduced the emissions of Cadbury's supply chain but also provided measurable data usable by other companies. Cadbury has also committed to a 50 percent absolute reduction in its carbon emissions by 2020 and has set targets for packaging and water-use reduction. Cadbury is the only confectionary company included in this year's report.

Ian Walsh, the Global Head of Environment for Cadbury, commented in a press release: "Sustainability is increasingly at the heart of all of our business decisions, and this survey confirms that climate change is now a boardroom, and not backroom, issue."
