Exxon Mobil Helps With Hydrogen

Exxon Mobil is working with Air Products, a regional energy company, to construct a steam methane reforming hydrogen production facility in Louisiana. The project is a long-term contract, built as part of Air Products’ Louisiana Hydrogen Pipeline Network and meant to service Exxon Mobil’s Baton Rouge refinery. Air Products will also use the facility to serve other customers in the region. The production facility is slated for completion in March 2010.

The Louisiana project is not the first time that Exxon Mobil has teamed up with Air Products: The two companies have worked together on hydrogen facilities in both Baytown, Texas and Joliet, Illinois. The continuing partnership has been beneficial to both companies. Air Products has the largest hydrogen pipeline in the Gulf Coast region, supplying more than 50 refineries with cleaner burning fuels — while it doesn't match Exxon Mobil's size, Air Products has had significant regional successes.

"We are very pleased to expand our global business relationship with Exxon Mobil,” said Alex Masetti, the vice president of Air Products' North America Tonnage Gases, according to a post on gas2.0. "Air Products takes great pride in its production facilities and hydrogen supply reliability, and the project will enable us to demonstrate the added value of our expanded Louisiana Hydrogen Pipeline Network."

Exxon, please research H2 generation. We need the H2 economy now, to save us from imported oil costs! We need huge amounts of H2 to replace oil imports. We need to find the source for the H2 here at home in the U.S. A. H2 from natural gas will only last a short while! We need a better source! MIT suggested a catalyst for solar generation of H2. Can Exxon finance the development of such enterprise on large commercial scale, or must we rely on and increasingly socialist government to take over? Is a socialist democracy the only solution it an indolent lack-luster vulture capitalism, only willing to put money on sure things? MIT is not known for foolishness, why doesn't the big money corporation take their idea seriously enough to bring it to fruition for themselves and the American people? The bottom line looks good, even better than oil, in a world where oil is running low, wells are going dry! Wait! I have a better idea, let the intelligentsia of China "Re-discover" the same catalysts, and let them take the risk and develop it for retail to America, like the Chevy 'volt" knock-off car, now driving in shanghai8 streets, and sold by contract to Israel right under as floundering GM corporation's nose, just in time to make the Chinese more "Yuan" than ever before, while GM keeps its Vapor-ware secrets to itself and dies even in America! Why is sane business so difficult to do in America? Why are we not leaders? Why does every opportunity we pass up kick us in the ass on its way out the door? Why are all the transistorized TV sets in the world built in Asia, when we invented the transistor, or is that a lie, like the man on the moon, 911, MIT's mirtical catalyst and a thousand other things that sort of stink about America?WTF?
