CA Utilities Experimenting with Clean Power
While California voters rejected the flawed clean energy measures Proposition 7 and Proposition 10, it hasn't set back the cause of clean energy any in the progressive West Coast state. A Reuters report states that several local utilities are experimenting with clean energy production of their own volition.
Dynegy Inc, NV Energy are reported to be setting up experimental solar and natural gas plants, according to the Electric Power Research Institute. The effort also brings in resources from across the nation: funding is coming from energy companies in Atlanta, and Raleigh, and the test plants are being set up in Nevada and Arizona.
Though the poorly-designed Prop 7 and 10 lost, the reason could have been that many voters may still have held concerns that without government support, clean energy production would never ramp up. Experimental programs like these show that industry is willing to take on the shift to sustainability on its own—even without motivational funding and subsidy from the taxpayer.
