Got Cold Feet About Your Carbon Footprint?
Got cold feet about trying to trying to bring a little green into your life? Then maybe these rechargeable foot warmers will be right up your alley. I can't say that I've really thought too much of the environmental impacts brought on by traditional hand and foot warmers. They rely on fairly innocuous chemicals, like iron, carbon and vermiculite, and couldn't require all that much energy to produce. That having been said, many of these root ingredients have to be mined, which can have some fairly serious environmental impacts.
While the circuitry and batteries of these foot warmers almost certainly require more energy to create—and definitely do worse in the landfill—I could imagine that over the course of their lifetime, they might end up being less environmentally deleterious than a gigantic pile of the disposable alternative. Still, with the better part of the American power supply delivered by coal, it'll be a while until these insoles provide a closer fit for your carbon footprint.
