Wildfire: The $15k Electric Car You Can Buy Today

While Americans wait breathlessly for the the Chevy Volt and a sub-100k Tesla, an Ohio company is quietly selling yet another reasonably priced, fully-electric car. Wildfire Motors, based Steubenville, Ohio has developed the WF-120V, a small EV selling for $15,325 ($13k base). Although it is factory limited to go only 25 mph (due to inconsistent local laws that affect it and all competing "neighborhood" vehicles), software adjustments can make it a highway-ready 50 mph car.
If you like the look of the Smart Car, you'll love the Chinese-made WF-120V. It comes in green or yellow and includes little perks like a CD player, alarm system, and power windows.
The driving force behind the car is ten 105 amp American-made batteries that can charge in 4 hours and run up to 60 miles on a fill-up.
Wildfire has a diverse line of products, from corn furnaces to go-karts and ATVs. I couldn't find a lot of information about sales or locations, but at least one dealer in Shelbyville, Indiana has garnered some attention for selling the spunky autos.
Wildfire's entry into the EV landscape is almost certainly destined to be a niche market venture. Still, it's an impressive accomplishment given the utter failure of the bigger companies to deliver a marketable product and the history of drama in this emergent industry.
