New Hampshire Welcomes its First Green Full-Service Gas Station

Dover residents and businesses can now take advantage of shopping, fueling and saving green at New Hampshire’s first all-purpose fueling station and “congreenience” store, as owner Andrew Kellar calls the enterprise. Kellar, owner of Simply Green, has opened an all-in-one bio-diesel gas station, green building, and farmers' market in Dover, New Hampshire. It's a tree-hugger's and soccer mom’s dream!

The stations offers a range of bio-fuels, bio-diesels, and regular unleaded gases including various regular and premium Ethanol-10 fuels, and diesel ranging from five to 20 percent bio-diesel composition. Catering to super green customers, Simply Green can arrange for a 99 percent bio-diesel fuel upon request. Simply Green’s fuels are made using plant oils and animal fats like soybeans and tallow.

The building itself has many green attributes. The store was remodeled from a former, vacant convenience store into a green building using bamboo flooring and other green materials. Solar panels help to power the station. One of the most surprising and greenest features of the station is its commitment to local produce. “Our shelves are stocked with all local products, all from vendors within a 100-mile radius of our store,” according to Kellar.

It's an interesting concept: green transportation meets green building meets buy locally. Now let's hope there are enough green consumers in the area to support it!
