Baseball Players Turning Green

A group of former major leaguers want to use their fame to promote the environment and clean up the game's soiled image.

Darrel Evans, who starred for the Braves, Giants and won a World Series with the Tigers, started the Field of Green Team to "help baseball fans around the world unite" around concern for the environment. Joining Evans are Bill "Spaceman" Lee and Butch Hobson, both former members of the Boston Red Sox.

In a press release, Evans said that the media focus on steroid use has given baseball players a negative image, so he is hoping that stars of yesteryear can shift young fans' attention on positive contributions.

The Green Team website will provide information and also sell products, starting with a fuel additive.

Baseball fans revere their heroes of the past, so it is realistic to expect that the players will draw attention to their mission. Hopefully they'll get some current major leaguers on board as well to teach younger fans the importance of being sustainable.
