Hospitality Industry Registers Carbon Credit Program
The non-profit Global Green Hospitality Consortium (GGHC) launched a Carbon Credits Exchange Program (CCEP) using Carbon Emission Reduction (CER) credits established via the Kyoto Protocol.
GGHC will award hospitality companies carbon credits based on their carbon reductions. The credits can be used for the purchase of additional sustainability and green energy services, products, or solutions from the GGHC.
The products offered will feature labels with their credit value so that companies can keep tally on the credits earned.
Moving to sustainable services and products can pay their own direct financial rewards, and the addition of carbon credits that can be traded provides further incentive. Hotels have been relatively quiet in becoming green leaders. This industry-wide effort could help nudge more companies into sustainability.
