ASDA Is Gaming For Green
ASDA wants you to spend a few minutes playing their new game, “Landfill Bill.” It’s for the environment, so maybe you can spare the time.
ASDA’s Flash-based game focuses on tossing recyclables at moving bins. It’s up to the player to figure out if a milk jug goes into the glass recycling bin or into the plastic. It’s all a part of their latest marketing campaign. The U.K.-based company is a chain of supermarkets owned by Wal-Mart. The company has made a commitment to encouraging recycling and sustainable living. “Landfill Bill” grew out of that commitment.
The game is a slick little number. Matmi, the makers, are pros at creating viral games. After a round or two of play, though, it’s easy to move on to the next game that catches your attention. I’d like to know how well playing “Landfill Bill” is translating into ASDA shoppers recycling, rather than sending garbage to the landfill. I’m not convinced that a game is translating into more recycled items.
