Constant Computer Turnover Equals Electronic Waste
When it comes to bringing your office into the 21st century, the disposable nature of computers and other office equipment can make for a major problem. Most companies try to change out computers every four years — or even faster, depending on the industry.
For companies with huge numbers of employees, we’re talking about an amazing amount of hardware that essentially goes to a landfill after just a few years. Microsoft, for example, employees approximately 79,000 full time employees. Now, there’s probably plenty of support staff that don’t need computers in a company of that size, but even if only half of the company’s full time employees have computers, we’re still talking about almost 40,000 computers that regularly get traded in for new machines.
Lovethe1yourewith is a site run by four Stanford grad students. They’re trying to convince people to upgrade their computers, rather than replacing them. As a part of their campaign, they’ve put together a great video.
