McCain Changes Mind, Pushes Cap-and-Trade Plan

Maybe Rush Limbaugh is right. Maybe a steady diet of NPR and Salon.com is slowly turning my brain into a bowl of ramen noodles. But I could swear that just last week McCain said we could forget about global warming for the next 20 years or so.

Well, it looks like the Arizona senator has returned to his senses this week, pitching a fairly ambitious cap and trade program in the rainy Liberal Utopia of Portland, OR (a swing state, just in case you forgot). Good thing Karl Rove isn't stalking the opposing sidelines, or another 'Nam vet might find himself decried as a flip-flopper and assailed by "Hanoi Hilton Veterans for Truth".

Though the move is sure to improve McCain's standing among green voters, it might not be an entirely political maneuver on the part of the presumptive nominee; he's long tried to follow the example of Teddy Roosevelt, who was both a conservative and an early pioneer of the conservationist movement.
