Politically Odd Day Continues as Democrats Embrace Coal Power

I realize that pandering to various localities is part and parcel with election year politics, but does it really have to be so transparent? I mean, first McCain talks about carbon caps in Seattle, and now both Clinton and Obama are talking up clean coal in West Virginia, darn near the heart of anthracite country.

The two Democratic contenders also clamped down on any talk of global warming, which "cleaner" coal technologies do absolutely nothing to correct. Coal, which produces roughly half of the US electric supply, is bad news for the environment in more ways than I can count. From water table contamination, to acid rain, to deforestation, to erosion, to heavy metal emissions, to it's inescapable impact on carbon footprint, any ecologically sound model for future US energy production drastically reduces or eliminates the role of the coal industry.

Hopefully once the Democratic race is over, whichever candidate comes out on top will take a firmer stance on a sustainability.
