Solar Power Beefs Up

Poor solar. It’s the green energy source everyone loves to mock. It’s for hippies. It’s not powerful enough.  It doesn’t work at night. It gets put on stuff like dresses and bras.

 Well, solar is officially sick of your teasing. It’s decided to go on a high-protein diet, and has started hitting the gym everyday.  It wants to remind you who powers the satellites that stare down on you and who’s running the labs and communications at the International Space Station. And if CNN is a reliable predictor of things to come, when it’s all said and done, solar is gonna be totally jacked.

Fans of SimCity 2000 might also remember something like this being referred to as “microwave power”. Let’s just hope the effects of a real-world mistarget are less devastating than the game depicts.

Perhaps the author did not mean to set up such an obvious play on gender, but the contrast of the "weak" and "powerful" versions of solar power could hardly be more transparent. Any post with "dresses and bras" may get a closer review, but I'm not impressed with the girlie-solar connection. As for me, I'd like to see solar power portrayed as a superhero...such as Wonder Woman. :)

I'd like to think of solar power as Serena Williams, in this case. ;)
