Food Calculator Helps in Choosing Green Cuisine
Making the right food choices at the kitchen table is never easy. Foods don’t exactly shout out their own vitamin and caloric contents to you. And it gets even more complicated when you’re trying to select the greenest, most sustainable options for your daily diet.
But the Bon Appetite Management Company has created a simple webpage to help you gauge the carbon impact your daily food selections have on the environment. Simply drag and drop your favorite food items into a meal onto the frying pan, and the page calculates number of grams of carbon dioxide (or equivalent global warming pollution) your meal is responsible for.
By taking into account the distance food has traveled, whether or not it's in season, the method of its production, and the energy required in its preparation, the carbon calculator provides a holistic view of the sustainability of your favorite meals, and also provides information on some possible, carbon-friendlier alternatives.
