Green Apple Grows

The Big Apple’s dry cleaners are getting a little help from cleantech innovation these days. Green Apple Cleaners, a dry cleaner reliant on Solvair’s green cleaning system, is growing to the point that they are able to keep a second Solvair machine busy.

The Solvair Cleaning System uses liquid CO2 and a biodegradable cleaning folmula to clean clothing, and the system has minimal carbon emissions. David Kistner, the CEO of Green Apple Cleaners, made his choice of cleaning systems clear in a press release: "As dry cleaners struggle to meet environmental regulations that require costly new equipment, misleading "organic" and "natural" claims by some traditional cleaners keep customers guessing about what is really green. Solvair is the real deal."

Kistner’s enthusiasm isn’t just for the cleaner nature of his business — since Green Apple Cleaners switched over to the Solvair system, they’ve seen a 52 percent reduction in their utility bills. At this point, Green Apple Cleaners has 10,000 clients relying on their green cleaning technology. The company has relied primarily on pickup business in the past, but Green Apple Cleaners has grown to the point that they’ll be opening up seven new locations this year.
