Pedal-Powered Phone Answers the Call in Nicaragua

While most developing countries are seen as hotbeds of industrial pollution, unchecked emissions and other shady environmental practices, in at least one developing Central American nation, green energy and progress are going hand in hand.
In Nicaragua, access to telecommunications is sparse, especially in rural or remote regions of the country, and many citizens there make use of call shops, small businesses akin to Western Internet cafes, that provide reliable phone service to customers at a reasonable price.
An outfit called Llamadas Pedaleadas, however, is looking to fill a gap in the market by bringing phone service to the people on a specially-modified bicycle.A video produced by the company covers all the technical details, and includes some brilliant touches, including the reuse of junkyard parts, and a design reparable even in some of the most remote parts of the planet.
