San Francisco Solar Subisidy Sparks Sun Power
Since the later part of the 1960s, San Francisco has been at the forefront of progressive issues in the United States, as well as the cutting edge of technology.
From the city’s ambitious public access Wi-Fi plan, to mayor Gavin Newsom’s sweeping, unilateral declarations, many trends that eventually swept the nation were born in the shadow of the Golden Gate.
So in that light, San Francisco’s plan to fund and encourage solar power is a serious and exciting development. With a budget of three million dollars, the plan aims to reduce the costs of solar energy for residents, and to give an added boost to a plethora of solar energy companies that call the City by the Bay home.
The plan aims to increase solar energy within the city more than tenfold, from its current 5 megawatts to more than 50, setting what could be an impressive precedent for sun-blessed (and not-so-sun-blessed) cities nationwide.
