Solar Power to be Cost-Competitive By 2015
While recent programs rolled out by clean energy firms across the country have shown that consumers and businesses are willing to pay a premium for clean energy, a recent study has estimated that solar power will be completely cost competitive by 2015.
“As solar prices decline and the capital and fuel costs for coal, natural gas, and nuclear plants rise, the U.S. will reach a crossover point by around 2015” reads a statement released by Clean Edge and Co-op America, who produced the report.
The study also states that Solar will meet 10% of the US energy need by 2025, and apparently does not take into account increased taxes or costs related to carbon caps that might be imposed between now at the hypothesized carbon/solar price crossover date.
