Study Shows 90% of Green Skepticism Backed by Think Tanks

Ever wonder where climate change opponents come from? You know, the guys who pop up on talk shows, and claim that the science on global warming is still unclear, or that human impacts can’t be verifiably proven to be the source of recent warming trends?  Well, I’ve got the answer for 90% of them: right-wing think tanks. You know, the sorts of places that ask “What would Reagan do?” without even a trace of irony.

I don’t have any intention of politicizing this issue, though—I just want to point out an independent study that recently found that over 90% of the books published espousing contra-environmental viewpoints since 1972 were written by members of, and/or published by entities designed to advance what are traditionally Conservative viewpoints.

You can read as much into that as you want. Certainly the overlap between heavy industrial concerns and the Republican Party is bound to raise some eyebrows, but I generally try to stay away from demagogical conspiracy theories and stick to the facts.
