Offshore Weather Towers Pave Way for Wind Farm
While wind power has proven very popular over the past few years, as evidenced by wind turbine demand badly outstripping wind turbine supply, background research for implementing the best possible wind power installations can take a tremendous investment in time and money.
But now, off the shore of New Jersey, the US Minerals Management Service hopes to lease areas of the seabed for weather towers. Aside from providing valuable weather data to meteorologists in the region, these towers could also be used to amass data on wind strength and direction, to determine the best locations for future wind energy power sites.
With three companies already interested in developing the wind power resources of the region, it seems highly probably that this leasing will develop both an important revenue stream for the Department of the Interior, as well as providing the State of New Jersey and its citizens with the most productive and environmentally-friendly wind power system available.
