Top Green Building Firms Lauded
McGraw-Hill’s Engineering News Record has published a report naming the firms that have done the most sustainable building in the nation on almost two billion dollars' worth of domestic projects. The winners’ circle includes:
1. HOK
2. URS Corp.
3. Gensler
4. HKS Inc.
5. Fluor Corp.
6. Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc.
7. AECOM Technology Corp.
8. Perkins+Will
9. Tetra Tech Inc.
10. Perkins Eastman.
ENR ranked companies by how much money they made off of certified green projects, such as those that met LEED requirements or other third-party standards. The ENR website astutely comments that “The market for sustainable design has passed the tipping point and is rapidly becoming mainstream.”
Green building is indeed becoming big business in the US. It is exciting to see this market grow at the rate that it has, with plenty of building stock left to renovate and build. Green building may plateau but is unlikely to abate. Municipalities have helped to create the market for green building by incorporating sometimes stringent green standards into building codes. This is great news for the environment; buildings are a primary source of greenhouse gas emissions.
