Trans-Celtic Wind Project Proves Doubters Wrong
You may have heard that the weather in the England is bad. Turns out, the weather in the northern reaches of the British Isles is worse. From Julius Caesar to Bill Bryson, generation after generation of travelers to the Celtic lands have immediately noted one thing: the weather stinks.
Well, it seems Irish Energy Minister Eamon Ryan has decided it’s high time someone finally did something about it. No, I’m not talking about investing in Chinese-style weather control—instead, it’s a trans-Celtic network of wind turbines.
Aside from the fantastic political implications of Northern Ireland the rest of the Emerald Isle collaborating on a civic works project, the plan is heartening to hear about because Ireland has been one of the darlings of free market theorists during its unprecedented economic boom of the past few years. Seeing a wind power project thrive in such an economy solidly refutes the notion that clean energy simply isn’t competitive without economically-stultifying taxes and subsidies.
