Americans Overwhelmingly Prefer Green Power

Given the choice of expanding clean energy production or increasing offshore drilling, Americans overwhelmingly prefer the greener, renewable option, a new survey sponsored by the League of Conservation Voters, the Sierra Club, and the Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund says.

The over 83% of Americans that indicated they’d rather go the green route is good news both for backers of the sustainability revolution and for investors, corporations, and entrepreneurs planning to make inroads into a growing environmental sector in the near future.

Of course, polls on highly politicized issues are notoriously slippery in their use of language. This poll was something of a rebuttal to previous surveys revealing Americans were overwhelmingly in favor of off-shore drilling; it would be nice to have access to the specific questions asked to judge whether the framing may have unduly influenced responses.

That having been said, the poll reveals a widespread acceptance of green technologies as viable, real-world solutions, instead of the blue-sky curiosities they’ve been perceived as in the past. This is further reinforced by the success of clean energy services that charge a premium over non-renewable options.
